Constantinides Hosts Park Cleanup at Hallets Cove Playground
Astoria, N.Y. – New York City Council Member Costa Constantinides (D-Astoria) and community groups hosted a park beautification at Hallets Cove Playground. Located on Hallets Peninsula along the East River waterfront, Hallets Cove Playground serves residents of the NYCHA’s Astoria Houses.
The cleanup was attended by Public Advocate Letitia James, Astoria Houses Tenants Association President Claudia Coger, and representatives from Goodwill Industries.
Volunteers from local community groups in the surrounding area helped clean, paint, and contributed to the upkeep of the grounds.
“Beautifying Hallets Cove Playground is a huge step forward in our efforts to Keep Astoria Clean and in ensuring that residents of Astoria Houses have an enjoyable park to spend time in this summer. Cleanups like these result in a more united community and a cleaner neighborhood,” said Constantinides. “I am excited that children and their families within Astoria Houses will benefit from this and enjoy the way the playground looks. I thank Public Advocate James and all of the volunteers that helped us with the park cleanup.”
Costa Constantinides represents the New York City Council’s 22nd District, which includes his native Astoria along with parts of Woodside, East Elmhurst, and Jackson Heights. He serves as the chair the City Council’s Sub-Committee on Libraries and sits on seven standing committees: Civil Service & Labor, Contracts, Cultural Affairs, Environmental Protection, Oversight & Investigations, Sanitation, and Transportation.
