About Council Member Wilson:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

New York City Council Member Carl Wilson is a longtime Hell\u2019s Kitchen resident, community leader, and advocate who has spent his career fighting for working people in New York City. He has worked in the New York City Council for nearly a decade. First, he served as Community Board 4 Liaison in Former Council Speaker Corey Johnson’s office. After that, he became Chief of Staff to then-Council Member Erik Bottcher. In April 2026, he became the Council Member for District 3.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Carl was raised by two lifelong civil servants, his mother working in affordable housing and his father as the Sergeant of Arms in the United States Senate. Carl began organizing in Hell’s Kitchen in 2016, working with the newly elected District Leaders. Shortly after, he became the Community Board 4 Liaison in Former New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson’s office, managing constituent services in Hell’s Kitchen and Chelsea. He later served on Community Board 4 himself, specifically on the Transportation Planning and Waterfront, Parks & Environment, and played a major role in advancing critical public realm improvements. He then worked at the Fifth Avenue Association, fostering economic growth on one of Manhattan’s most iconic streets. <\/p>\n

He returned to the Council to serve as then-Council Member Erik Bottcher’s Chief of Staff. Working through the city’s budgeting and legislative process he advocated for funding towards pivotal community programs like Drag Queen Story Hour and the West Side Work Force Coalition. Legislatively, he helped author one-of-its-kind gun violence prevention legislation, bills that expanded our tree canopy and green infrastructure, protections for Trans New Yorkers, and pushed mental health initiatives to the forefront of City Hall.<\/p>\n

Council Member Wilson was elected to the New York City Council in April of 2026, and seated in May 2026. He serves on the following Committees: Committee on Combat Hate, Committee on Consumer and Worker Protection, Committee on General Welfare, Committee on Governmental Operations, State & Federal Legislation, Committee on Health, Committee on Higher Education, Committee on Housing and Buildings, Committee on Mental Health and Substance Use, and Committee on Sanitation and Solid Waste Management. Council Member Wilson is also a part of the LGBTQIA+ Caucus and the Animal Welfare Caucus. <\/p>\n

Carl graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
