Ranked Choice Voting

Ranked-choice voting will be used for the June 2021 Primary Election.

In 2019, New York City overwhelmingly voted to amend the New York City Charter deciding to move from electing candidates by a plurality of votes to ranked-choice voting. This new electoral process allows voters to select multiple candidates and rank them in order of preference.

I am overwhelmed with the amount of positive feedback and support Participatory Budgeting has received. During Vote Week (March 30 – April 7), nearly 2,600 Harlem residents voted to decide how $1 million of capital funding will be allocated to the district.

I am proud to announce the 9th Council district will take part in Participatory Budgeting Vote Week (Saturday, March 30 – Sunday, April 7). District 9 is one of 33 Council districts using Participatory Budgeting to allow constituents to have direct influence on public funds. You will have the opportunity during Vote Week to spend $1 million within the district.

Participatory Budgeting New York City (PBNYC) is a democratic process where community members can decide on how to spend part of a public budget of $1,000,000 throughout this council district. During a time when constituents are losing faith in the transparency of government, PBNYC allows a seat at the table to make decisions that will make significant changes to the neighborhood.
