“Scaffolding is there to protect us from falling buildings, but what’s going to protect us from falling scaffolding,” said Council Member Ben Kallos. “With scaffolding falling throughout our city, scaffolding companies have proven that they can’t be trusted to self-certify anymore. Department of Buildings must inspect every scaffold when it goes up to ensure that it will actually keep us safe.”

Kallos cited seven scaffolding collapses dating back to February 2017 that resulted in either property damage or injury.

Councilman Ben Kallos (D-Manhattan) is sponsoring the legislation to require 14 days of online job postings before interviews are done for government jobs.

Kallos said he wants to rein in patronage hiring at the city Board of Elections — where officials have long resisted calls to publicly post all their jobs.

Summer brings the Daily News’ semi-annual ritual of shaming hypocrites on the City Council and of noting those who are true to their word.

Twice a year, the speaker doles out bonuses to members as rewards for obeisance. The Council justifies the payments, known as lulus, by calling them compensation for added committee duties that supplements the standard annual salary of $112,500.
