Public Safety

"We all remember the bad old days of the 70s. Empty buildings and broken windows. Too much violence and not enough cops. We let an economic downturn cause an upturn in crime. But we’ve learned from the past. And I promise you – we won’t make those same mistakes again."

Gang Violence
Excerpt from Speech:
"We’re not going to take one step back in the fight against crime. But every
one of us has to play our part."

More Information:
Pass a bill to create two new class A misdemeanors that target gang members who encourage initiates to commit crimes.

Anti-Violence Program with PAX
Excerpt from Speech:
"We’ll build a coalition of young people to help us prevent crime in our schools and in our neighborhoods. By teaming up with the Department of Education, and the anti-gun violence group Pax, we’ll create an education and outreach program targeted at schools in violent neighborhoods."

More Information:
We would work with the Department of Education and PAX on a pilot to curb gun violence in schools. We will create an anonymous hotline students can call, and eventually text, to report anyone suspected of having a gun or planning an assualt.
