Statement by Speaker Christine C. Quinn
Re: Mayor’s Signing of Clinic Access Bill
“Today we mark a turning point in women’s reproductive health in New York City. With this bill being signed into law, women across the five boroughs can feel safer knowing that the City is protecting them from being harassed and is assisting them to obtain full access to the health care system. Everyone has a right to express their opinion but nobody has the right to prevent a woman from taking care of her health. Women now can be confident in their personal and legal health care decisions – and can rest assured that no one will be allowed to stand in their way. I want to thank Mayor Bloomberg for signing the bill, and all the advocates at NARAL Pro-Choice NY, Planned Parenthood of New York, the Reproductive Rights Project at the New York Civil Liberties Union, the Center for Reproductive Rights, Dr.Emily’s Women’s Health Center and the dedicated men and women of the New York City Council for working hard on this important piece of legislation.”
