Statement by Speaker Christine C. Quinn Regarding Sean Bell Verdict
Today's verdict marks a difficult and turbulent chapter in our city’s history. But the conclusion of the criminal trial will not change the fact that a year and a half ago, a young man was killed and family lost a father.

Justice Arthur Cooperman had the difficult task of making a decision in correspondence with the facts and the law. We must respect that decision.  Sean Bell’s death requires us to peacefully examine the circumstances that led to it – to see where the system failed him and repair it – so we can prevent similar tragedies in the future. We are committed to doing just that.
