There are still many seats available  for pre-Kindergarten in many public schools and community-based organizations around New York City! You can view a map to see how many are available in your district. Last day to sign up is October 31st! You can call 311 for any additional information.


What is the Universal Pre Kindergarten Program?

New York City provides Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) programs for children who turn four years of age by December 31, 2008 and live in New York City.  If your child is not yet attending pre-Kindergarten, we encourage you to enroll your daughter or son soon!

Universal Pre-Kindergarten is free.  UPK programs can be half day (two and a half hours, AM or PM) or full day (six hours and twenty minutes). These programs deliver enriched early childhood education. 



How Can I Sign Up my 4 year old for the Program?

If you are interested in registering your child for pre-Kindergarten, please contact one of the programs listed in the directories below.  You may want to consider a program near where you live, work or go to school.  Be sure to ask about the program hours (AM, PM or full day). You must register your child by October 31, 2008.  Openings will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

In order to register, you must bring your child and the following required documentation to the school for registration:  proof of birth (birth certificate or passport);  verifiable proof of residence immunization records.The Pre-Kindergarten Borough Staffis available to answer any questions that you may have about curriculum and enrollment.
