The Caucus seeks to advance the status of women and focuses on issues such as work, including pay equity and sex equity, education, reproductive health and reproductive rights, lesbian rights, the advancement of women in the private sector, in government and public office, violence against women, poverty, racial and ethnic diversity, and the needs of families.

Women's Caucus Role in the NYC Budget Process

Every year, the Women's Caucus submits to the Speaker's office a list of funding priority recommendations for both Expense and Capital Budget items. It is important to remember that the list is only a series of recommendations. A small number of those recommended groups are selected each year for funding by the Speaker's office at the request of the Women's Caucus.

If your non-profit organization, which is focused on women's issues, is interested in being considered as a priority for the Caucus, please follow the directions for applying for funding as explained on the Council website. Then please send an email to afarias@council.nyc.gov briefly stating the organization name, the purpose of the funding, the amount requested, and the name of the contact person.
