Make Your Voice Heard!
On June 11th, 16th and 19th, the Rent Guidelines Board (RGB) will be holding public hearings on proposed rent increases.
Recently, the RGB recommended increases of 3.5 to 7 percent for one-year leases and 5.5 to 9.5 percent for two-year leases. Although these proposed increases are not as large as had been recommended, the Council is deeply concerned about the effect that even modest rent increases will have on more than 2 million lower- and middle-income New Yorkers, many of whom are our most financially vulnerable neighbors - senior citizens, the disabled and the working poor struggling to make ends meet.
The Council urges you to let Chairman Marvin Markus know what you think of the RGB's proposed increases and to add your voice in support of legislation in Albany, sponsored by State Senator Tom Duane and Assemblyman Latimer, that would make the RGB more fair to hard working families.
